Watt….About

I am a retired Master Gardener in Ulster County, now living in Wallkill, New York with my husband Neil (my high school sweetheart of over 48 years). Most of the challenges of gardening took place when we lived in Gardiner, NY, just 7 miles from our current retirement home. Living in such a beautiful mountain area for 32 years had given me a chance to grow from a novice to successful gardener after meeting all the challenges nature had to offer.
I am an experienced garden lecturer who has given classes at garden centers, garden clubs, and private garden tours. I have spent many long hours designing, installing and maintaining gardens for private home owners so they could enjoy multiple seasons of beautiful gardens at their own homes. My specialty has always been in helping people to overcome the challenge of having deer in the garden.
I’m a retired member of Cornell Co Operative Extension Master Gardener Program of Ulster County, NY, the New Paltz Garden Club, who ‘worked together to beautify the surroundings, to study all aspects of gardening, and promote conservation of our natural resources’. I agree wholeheartedly. I also co-founded a garden club in my own town. The Gardiner Gardeners, so that gardeners could get together and just ‘talk about plants’ in an unstructured environment with people who shared the same interest.

I also worked with a senior citizens group at a day center in Ulster County once per week doing ‘garden therapy’. More recently we have moved to our Wallkill home where I continue to garden, but have mainly focused on Easy Care plants. It’s a constant struggle to keep plants, shrubs, and trees to a ‘manageable’ level since I have loved so many plants over the years. If you ask me one minute what my favorite is, the next minute I could choose something else. But practically speaking…as retired life goes on, “my garden has to look good with minimum care as we age.”

I have begun to pass the love of gardening on to my grown children who have homes of their own now, and four grandchildren who are the loves of my life.
